Southwell is in the Midlands and is one only two racecourses in Britain that offer all-weather, Flat turf and Jump racing. That means there is  racing every month of the year.

It has a Fibresand track with a racing surface, that tends to ride a little slower and more testing than the other Fibresand courses.

Horses that are suited by soft ground on the turf are often at home on the Fibresand.

Flat and National Hunt. The flat action takes place on an all weather Fibresand track that is left handed, level and about 10 furlongs in circumference. There is a straight 5 furlongs course. Sometimes flat racing takes to the turf track, that runs on the inside of the all-weather circuit, this has a similar layout. National Hunt racing is also held on this grass course, where there is a run-in from the last obstacle of 220 yards.
