September - The Ayr Gold Cup

The Ayr Gold Cup is a flat horse race in the UK for 3 years olds and over thoroughbreds run over a straight 6 furlongs at Ayr Racecourse in September.

The maximum number of riders is 28, which is taken from the highest weighted horses entered. The next 28 compete for the Ayr Silver Cup on the same track the day before. The result of this race can sometimes indicate a draw advantage at the Ayr Gold Cup.

The Draw: There is quite a bit of debate about the effect of the draw (the determination of stall positions at race start), i.e. whether there is any advantage at being drawn low, middle or high. Racers with the high numbers run on the stand's side, and the racers with lowest numbers are on the far side.
